Band Notes

The 2010 marching season promises a super show with lots of great choreography, music, and artistry.  However, for the marching season to be a success, the students, staff, and director of the Keyser High School Marching Band need parents to be involved.  Listed below are several opportunities in which you can be involved in supporting roles.  If every parent volunteers for just one thing, this season will be the best yet!

*Chaperones*

Wanda Poland and Shirley Rinker are the chaperone subcommittee co-chairs this season.  If you want to chaperone football games and competitions, please contact Wanda or Shirley.

New this year are ID Tags identifying and detailing the responsibility of each chaperone.  The main responsibility is keeping track of the kids.  In addition, chaperones will make sure the kids are in proper uniform and ready to perform and assists with flag and backdrop placement on the field.

 *Pictures*

If you attend the football games and competitions and have a digital camera, then this may be the job for you. Pictures are needed of the band at its best on the field as well as candid shots of the kids having fun.  Contact Mrs. Warrick if you can volunteer as photographer.

  *Uniform Police*

Volunteers for this subcommittee will check the appearance of band members before they take the field, i.e. clean shoes, black socks, jewelry removed, uniform neat.  In addition, these volunteers will periodically check all uniforms to make sure no parts are missing and that uniforms are being properly cared for.

 *Concession Stands*

The band is responsible for concession stands at football and boys & girls soccer games.  A volunteer is still needed to oversee the boys soccer games.  This person is responsible for inventorying food items used during the game as well as arranging for workers.  Contact Mrs. Warrick if you can oversee concessions at boys soccer games.

Several parents are needed at each game to work at the concession stand.  Please contact Ruth Fertig or Bernie Capaldi if you can help.

 *Truck Crew*

Contact Dwayne Beckwith to volunteer for this job. Responsibilities include helping students properly load and unload equipment and instruments from the truck and trailer.  Drivers are also needed but must be approved prior to driving.

 *The Band Picnic*

The Band Picnic is Thursday August 5 at 6:00 in the KHS cafeteria.  You are asked to RSVP the number in each family who will be attending. To insure there is enough food for all, please list the covered dish you plan to bring on the RSVP form.  Provide a dish large enough to feed the number of people you are bringing.

After the picnic, the band will perform the show.

*Band Camp*

Percussion camp is July 26 through July 30 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Band Camp is August 2 through August 6 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.  Lunch is provided for percussion camp and lunch and dinner for band camp.  If you can help serve a meal (or two or three) contact Lisa Terrell.  Donations are also needed of snacks, fresh fruit and veggies, and drinks.

 *Fund Raisers*

Band is expensive.  It is very important that each student do their part to help financially support the band if we want to continue to have a marching band.  Tentatively scheduled fund raisers are: August-Tag Day, September-Tornado Door Mats, October-Little Caesar Pizza, November-Wrapping paper, and December-Butter Braids and Cookie Dough.  If you want to chair a fund raiser or if you have an idea for one, please contact Tammy Beckwith or Lisa Terrell.

With every parents involvement, this marching season can be the best yet!
